Interesting Facts About Sickle Cell Disease!


Did you know???
Approximately 1 in 400 African Americans is born with Sickle Cell Anemia. SCD affects many more Americans than inherited diseases such as Cystic Fibrosis, Phenylketonuria and Hemophilia. It also has a higher incidence rate than Muscular Dystrophy and Tay-Sachs Disease.

Did you know???
Sickle Cell Trait is NOT a disease. 1 out of every 10 African Americans has Sickle Cell Trait. When both parents have the trait, there’s one in four (25%) chance with EACH pregnancy that the child will be affected with Sickle Cell Anemia.

Did you know???
Painful Episodes (Crisis's) are the most common recurring illness with people who have Sickle Cell Disease. It’s caused by a localized circulatory problems that arise when red blood cells sickle, stop blood flow, and deprive tissue of oxygen. A Crisis's can often be preceded by infection, dehydration, or a chemical imbalance in the body fluids.

Did you know???
Sickle Cell Disease is a life long & life threatening condition. It is not contagious and people do not “grow out of it”. We learn to live with it, and not let it hinder us from reaching our goals!

Unity Ride for Sickle Cell Awareness~ Calling All Motorcycle Riders...




If you are in VIRGINIA April 30,2011 PLEASE JOIN US Calling all motorcycle riders to ride for a great cause police escorted The motorcycle ride is to unite the community by educating and calling attention to this disease {SICKLE CELL DISEASE},to clarify you don't have to ride motorcycles to come to this event,although there is a need for motorcycle riders to ride from Petersburg to Richmond, All are welcome to attend!

Saturday, April 30 at 8:00am until 11:00am
Petersburg Deparment of Health,
301 Halifax Street, Petersburg, VA

The motorcycle ride is to unite the community by educating and calling attention to this disease

Sickle Cell Association of Richmond--OSCAR in conjunction with SCA Bike Committee & The Ladies of Elegance SC

Food will be served after the ride and bike blessing
Variety of juices and pastries will be given out at registration

Club & Motorcycle Riders can register in advance
Sponsors are welcome call for detail or email

Registration starts: 8:00am --10:00am
Registration fee: $15.00 per rider/ $ 20.00 with passenger
First biker out: 10:15am
Final destination: Second Baptist Church

September is National Sickle Cell Awareness Month!!!


Did you know that approximately 1 in 400 African Americans is born with Sickle Cell Anemia. SCD affects many more African Americans than inherited diseases such as Cystic Fibrosis, Phenylketonuria and Hemophilia. Did you know 1 out of every 10 African Americans have the trait??? ...and when both parents have the trait, there is a one in four chance (25%) with EACH pregancy that the child will inherit the disease????
To show my support to all of those affected by SCD .. including my daughter, Majestique will donate a larger percentage of it's profits for the month of September!!!
