July 27- Rock the Bells concert series in Columbia, MD!!!

YES!!!!! We made the voyage from Raleigh, NC to Maryland for this historic MEGA concert series and YES SIIIIRRRRR! It was well worth the trip!!! Over 35,000 people from every race & culture were in attendance...and it was beautiful!!! NO DRAMA!!! The artists delivered powerful performances which took you back to the beginning of Hip Hop up to today!!! SuperNatural (who by the way holds the Genius Book of World Records title for free style rapping for over an hour) hosted the event!!! He blazed the mic between sets and had a ball doing so!!! I've had the pleasure of seeing him step out into the audience and include what ever items were held up into his rhyme!! Amazing! This brother is blessed with skills!

Opening the show was MURS... a brother out of LA who delivered hot beats and hot rhymes!!! His energy was outstanding and his performance was on point as well!!! Following him was out of DC. Again, another blazing performance!

Next was the TURN OFF THE RADIO kings... DEAD PREZ (M-1 and Stic Man) with the political fire filled lyrics they are known for. Like they say... it's bigger than HIP HOP!!! The crowd jumped and shouted as they led one of their most loved hits.

Immortal Technique blazed the stage next... again, spitting truth about life, politics and hip hop.... definitely a crowd pleaser with the acapella flow they demonstrated along with some HOT beats laced with verbal swords!!!

Next it was time to take a journey in time with RAKIM!!! Okay… I’ve always been a fan of Rakim… but seeing him up there rocking the mic… spitting lyrics.. took me back to the wop, my bamboo name earrings and 1987!!!! Not only did he kick the Rakim classics, but he put down his new joints as well!!! AND we have even more MAD love for Rakim, because he did acknowledge that there were children present, and announced that he would not do “certain” songs because they were too graphic with profanity.. his purpose.. To respect the shorties. Gotta love a brother for that!

RAEKWON & GHOSTFACE KILLAH were next to Rock the Bells!!! As prominent members of the WUTANG CLAN…they held it down while giving homage and respect to their lost soldier ODB (Old Dirty Bastard)… they ripped the mic and blessed the crowd with some of our favorites such as C.R.E.A.M. and new tracks from their forthcoming CD “Only Built for Cuban Linx II” which will release in the fall.

Taking us back to “Potholes” and “Me Myself and I” were none other than DE LA SOUL!!! DLS delivered an OUTSTANDING performance!!! The ENERGY was through the roof!!! And to our surprise and delight, Q-TIP made a special appearance which sent the crowd into a mad frenzy!! This was no doubt one of the hottest performances that night.

Okay… I know all the ladies want to know about their “baby daddies!” REDMAN & M-E-T-H-O-D MAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNN!!! What’s to say??? They put the damn thing down!!!! We shook our “Stankin’ Azzes”… We got chased by the Rockwalla… We got to tell Red and Meth “F” YOU!!! Cause you know “Red will BE THAT”… We Got “DIRTY”…. We “Shimmy Ya’ll Shimmy Yeah-ed” Basically, we lost our minds!!! The two also announced they are working on HOW HIGH 2 at the end of the year. So be on the look out!!! As always… it was a divine TREAT to see the WuTang Two in ACTION!!!! While Method surfed one side of the crowd… Red walked the other!!! Giving personal attention to their fans!!! ONE HOT PERFORMANCE!! Did I tell you, the crowd lost their minds!!! And what a treat…. Special guest DJ KOOL blazed his all time favorite hit “Let me Clear My Throat!”…. that joint rocked that same as it did back at Bahaman Bay in Philly!!! All the way LIVE!

MOS DEF was in the house as well!!!! A true artist - his performance was beyond words.
The crowd gave him MAD love as he performed some of his hottest tracks and gave love to his DJ by letting him rock the crowd B’More style! Following closely was THE PHARCYDE! Blazin’ with the original four members…They too delivered an outstanding slammin’ performance!!! But nothing could prepare us for what NAS had to deliver!!!! Talk about off the hook… NAS handled the stage with reverence… spittin’ his new material from his forth coming and VERY controversial CD… “Untitled” He couldn’t leave the stage without Ruling the World and BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVE HEARRRRRRRRRRT!!! He left us on Fire!

LAST but well worth the wait was TRIBE CALLED QUEST!!!!! Opening for them with a few of his solo hits was none other than Q-TIP!!! It was the perfect serve to an incredible and vibrant!!! Mos Def joined Q-Tip for his solo time… and helped set the tone for what was absolutely one of the HOTTEST most ENERGETIC performances of the evening!!! TCQ ripped, they blazed, they tore it up, down and over!!! Well worth the 11 hour wait in the hot sun & rain!!! Well worth the trip from NC to MD… well worth the itchy grass and minor sun burn. I’d do it all again in a BRAVE HEARRRT Beat!

Sun Salutations!!!

If you've never tried a Sun Salutation... I suggest, you put on your yoga (or yoga like) outfit, light your Majestique Spa Candles (www.MajestiqueSpa.com), find a place facing the rising sun.... and begin to Relax, Relate and Release while receiving ALL of that GOOD energy, Vitamin C and Vitality from the SUN!!!

It's been said that Yoga's sun salutations are among the most refined and effective movement meditations for health and well-being ever created. This exercise was originally practiced to connect to the sun's vitality. The combination of forward & backbends, awakens the breath and promotes circulation. I also find that it brings forth a balance of Chi. (our energy)

It can be done anywhere... like I said, facing the rising sun. Afterwards, I usually sit for a moment.... gather my thoughts, do my four fold breathing...(I spoke about that in Quiet Sundays) and meditate for as long as my household lets me. :-) Afterward, I follow up with .... yes, a nice cup of tea (www.NotJustTea.com)...and allow my self more time of Stillness.

Quiet Sundays! ~ Finding Focus

Quiet Sundays….Finding Focus

Good Morning!! Today is Sunday… my quiet day.. or atleast it is supposed to be quiet. But with children… it doesn’t work that way all of the time!

Most Sundays, I get up around 7am (while everyone is still asleep) Light my Majestique Candle… (Vineyard Seascape, Total Spa or Grapefruit Splash are my favorites from www.MajestiqueSpa.com ) Shower (peacefully), dress in a light flowing and loose fitting garment and just sit still.. meditate… breathe. Take in all of the beautiful energy of a Sunday morning.. rain or shine. I do a breathing exercise that calms, centers and energizes.

Sitting still- back straight, seated on the floor or chair (indoors or out)

Take deep breath in for 4 counts, Hold for 4 counts, exhale for 4 counts and hold for 4 counts.

Repeat as many times as needed.

While doing this exercise….when inhaling… try to inhale positive thoughts…positive energy… positive images… positive feelings.. The Spirit of GOD.

When exhaling… exhale all of the negative…energy, thoughts, feelings and images…..(that other dude that attacks daily)

Believe it or not… it works. It helps me be able to clear my mind and relax…allowing me to think “lightly” about my week ahead. A nice cup of Tea always helps… (I recommend a blend from www.NotJustTea.com. )

Approximately 1 in 400 African Americans is born with Sickle Cell Anemia. SCD affects many more Americans than inherited diseases such as Cystic Fibrosis, Phenylketonuria and Hemophilia. It also has a higher incidence rate than Muscular Dystrophy and Tay-Sachs Disease.

Sickle Cell Trait is NOT a disease. 1 out of every 10 African Americans has Sickle Cell Trait. When both parents have the trait, there’s one in four (25%) chance with EACH pregnancy that the child will be affected with Sickle Cell Anemia.

Painful Episodes (Crisis's) are the most common recurring illness with people who have Sickle Cell Disease. It’s caused by a localized circulatory problems that arise when red blood cells sickle, stop blood flow, and deprive tissue of oxygen. A Crisis's can often be preceded by infection, dehydration, or a chemical imbalance in the body fluids.

Did you know???
Sickle Cell Disease is a life long & life threatening condition. It is not contagious and people do not “grow out of it”. We learn to live with it, and not let it hinder us from reaching our goals!

What's That UR Reading???

Ok.. people who know me.. know I LOVEEEEEEEEE a good book. I love books to educate you about history, culture & world affairs… but my all time favorites… ha haaaa.. are the down and dirty… (not “naassssty dirty”.. but durty….action packed.. drama filled… can’t put it down so eat some cereal for dinner… eye rubbing… all night reading GOOOOOD books. I LOVE novels by my fellow Black authors who know how to put a spin on words and have you dreaming about the characters!! So, with that being said.. I figured I’d let you know what’s hot! and what’s not… of course, these are my own opinions!!!

If you’ve never heard of Wahida Clark… I suggest you google her! This is a sister.. who while in prison.. wrote and successful sold not 1… or 2 but if I’m not mistaken 4 novels AND STILL GOING STRONG. (Talk about overcoming your odds!!! OMG.. I’m so proud of her) They are Street… they are gutter But OMG… they are some Goooooood reads. She is a Number 1 Essence Best Selling Author.. and she is on point when it comes to “street novels..”… I believe she’s been crowned the Queen…. and a NJ native!!!

I read the first book… THUGS AND THE WOMEN WHO LOVE THEM” in 3 days… the sequel, “EVERY THUG NEEDS A LADY” I bought to read on the plan coming home from Hawaii… ok, didn’t happen.. I read it in 2 days… and as soon as I got home…. order and express shipped the 3rd in the series… “THUG MATRIMONY”… another read in 3 days!!! WHEW.. ACTION… DRAMA….. MYSTERY…. ok, yeah.. there’s some steamyyyyyyyyyy hot scenes… but WOW.. talk about a book that puts you in the middle of it all. She also has a second set of books… unrelataed to the Thug series.. but the same type of story.. “PAYBACK IS A MUTHA” and “PAYBACK WITH YA LIFE”…. read them both! HOT like FIRE!

Now, some people may say… “my goodness… why do you read such novels…” and “oh my… the content is SOOOO graphic and the language is so harsh”… yep, it is.. but to me.. it’s just like watching the movies we watch… just more details. I like the books because it shows a side a life, a lot of us don’t see… (some of us don’t wish to see)… and a side of life most of us don’t understand. I love Ms. Clarks books.. because she keeps it VERY real. Basically… You can be in “the life”… you can have alllllllll the money jewels…. cars.. .but there IS a price to pay??? How many of you are willing to pay it…. She deals with ALLLL issues.. abuse, black on black crime, down-low “thugs”, AIDS, depression, self esteem…. All of it!! And there’s no sugar coating it! She gives it to you raw!!!

So… if you’re up for a GOOD READ… and some REAL raw Drama.. pick up a copy of her book and tell me what you think!!!
